After the completion of New Austin Departs, I was intrigued by what a city would look like in a steampunk world. Since I had already created a city-walker in New Austin, I wanted to make something of a more traditional cityscape. Gears, pulleys and other mechanical devices are what we all know and love of steampunk universes.
One thing that I see as often overlooked in steampunk cities is that in order to support a large population, a city would need to produce a lot of steam. In order to simulate a large scale urban building, a comparable steam powered energy source would need to be used. Thus turning each building into it’s own steam engine, and each city into a steamworks. Here is a vision of San Francisco as one such steamwork.
